The legal tyre depth limit in Ireland for cars is 1.6mm but it is recommended for safety to ensure tyres have at least 3mm depth. Why? because the stopping distance in wet weather increases dramatically below 3mm. A new tyre will average at approx 8mm.
Get your tyres checked on a regular basis for condition, depth and pressure. Remember the tyre is the ony contact you have with the road so they have to be right. When you apply the brakes – you are depending on your tyres to stop the car.
